The Seiland Experience

In loneliness

Skitouring on the island Seiland in the high north of Norway has a very special feel to it. Based in a cosy guesthouse on a sparsely inhabitated island, all of the skitours start and end with a boat transfer. The skipper drops us off and we are far away from everything and will not see any other person during the whole day. We skin up to a remote peak, shake hands with Matthias Knaus our guide and then enjoy the view over the vast fjord landscape. We might even see the potential peak of tomorrow…but there are so many we cannot climb them all during this week. We step into the binding and then make our turns back all the way down to the ocean, where the skipper is already waiting with the little boat. He brings us back to the lodge, where it is already smelling delicious. After dinner we hop into the sauna and then end the day among friends with a beer or two. That´s more or less the summary of our last week on Seiland.
