Above deeply carved fjords
Along the wild west coast of Norway there are 1500 kilometers of mountains that invite you to go skiing. An excellent infrastructure with 3 ski areas, a very good road network and a quick connection to Alesund Airport make the Sunmore Alps very attractive. Already for the 3rd time we visit this beautiful mountain range between fjords, glaciers and wild mountain landscape.
Character of the trip
As a free mountain tourer, this trip offers you great opportunities to get to know new terrain. We can choose the descents depending on the conditions. The Sunmore Alps offer many enjoyable variants in moderately steep terrain, but we also find steep gullies directly above the fjord. This trip is a combination trip that combines ski touring and lifts.
We fly from Central Europe via Oslo to the port city of Alesund. From the cozy small town we drive in our shuttle bus to Stranda. We are housed in a cozy and well-equipped self-catering cottage right by the Strandafjället ski area. The next 6 days are at our disposal to create a perfect daily program depending on the weather and conditions. Right outside the front door, lifts take us up to 1200 meters and without much effort we ski from here down to the sea in the small fishing town of Stranda.
Ski touring mountains are there for half a skier's life and your mountain guide decides on site which peaks we climb depending on the conditions. An extraordinary tour offers the crossing of the Skarasalen. After a spectacular descent through a wide gully down to the sea, a small boat takes us back to our starting point. The view from Ytstevasshornet is breathtaking, especially the majestic Slogen. After 6 unforgettable days of skiing in the Sunmore Alps we drive back to Alesund the following Saturday and fly back home with lots of great memories.
On this trip we stay in cozy and well-equipped self-catering cabins right in the ski resort of Strandafjället. The type and size of the accommodation is highly dependent on the size of the group. In general, the houses offer a high standard with a cozy living room, fireplace and sometimes even a sauna and/or an outdoor whirlpool. As a rule, there are double rooms with a shared bathroom, but in some cases accommodation in a multi-bed room can also be expected. Single rooms are not possible on this trip! We prepare breakfast and dinner together as a group.
