Price: 1980 Euro

Here you can see some photos of the Sunmore Alps

Along the wild western coast of Norway hundreds and hundreds of mountains are rising into the sky and many of them are just made for skiers. Already 3 winters we have visited this fascinating region. We are stoked by the possibilities of skiing around these rugged peaks nestled between glaciers and fjords. If you are looking for a week full of skitouring and lift-supported freeriding, we are sure you will fall in love with the Sunmore Alps.

Process of the trip

The trip starts with a flight to the town of Alesund. After your arrival, we will drive to Spjelkavik, where a short ferry transfer will bring us to the Sunmore Alps. Our cozy base will be right next to the ski resort at Strandafjället. The next 6 days we will explore the great slopes and mountains of the region. The Ski lifts take us up to 1.200 meters above sea level and great runs bring us back down to the shore at the fishertown of Stranda. With ascents on skins, we can reach further runs, that bring us down over perfect northern slopes down towards Nyseater Vatnet. Where some nostalgic draglifts will bring you to further runs.

On days on which we´d like to do pure ski touring, hundreds of majestic peaks are tempting and your guide will decide which peak to climb depending on the prevailing conditions. A spectacular tour is the traverse of the Skarasalen. After descending a wide gully directly down to the sea a small boat will take us back to our cars. The views from the top of the Ytstevasshornet are breathtaking, especially Mount Slogen is really impressive.

With the Sunmore Alps week-pass, we can use 3 different Ski resorts. Together with many ski touring peaks, there is enough skiing for several weeks. After a varied week in the Sunmore Alps, we will bring you back to Alesund, from where you will fly back home with a lot of unforgettable memories.

Terrain

This trip offers you the possibility to get to know a new and varied mountain range. There are runs of all kind of difficulties and we will select them according to the conditions. We can ski wide open glades as well as steep couloirs down to the fjords.

Accommodation

During this trip the type and size of the accommodation are very dependent on the group size. Generally, the houses offer a good standard with a big living room, spacious kitchen and cozy rooms. Mostly the accommodation is in double rooms, but in some houses there can be also shared rooms with up to 4 beds. Therefore also couples could be in shared rooms. It is not possible to have single rooms on this trip! Some of the house even have a sauna or whirlpool, however not all of them. Most of the houses are either directly at the lift or just opposite of it, which means “ski in ski out” for us.

Best travel season

The winter season in the Sunmore Alps starts in November and ends in May. However to ski powder snow and have 9 hours of daylight early March is a perfect time to go.

The minimum number of participants is 5, the maximum number 7. Depending on demand there might be 2 groups on spot simultaneously, each group lead by its own mountain guide though.

Travel preparations

Please note the following three points after your booking:

A good or very good physical shape =>

A realistic self-assessment and an appropriate fitness level is required to join our trips. In order to enjoy long ski days, you need to get in shape and train prior to the trip. A good fitness also reduces the risk of injury.

Information about the destination, vaccinations, health =>

Please keep yourself updated about the current (political) situation and country specific particularities of your destination. You can do so by checking the website of the ministry of foreign affairs of your own country.

Travel insurance =>

Please note that there is a potential risk of injury on a ski trip. When travelling abroad several travel insurances are imperative. Besides a travel cancellation insurance we highly recommend a travel health insurance as well as a travel accident insurance. These insurances need to cover potential costs for search and rescue operations and costs for hospital stays etc. It is your own responsibility to make sure you are covered accordingly.

For all of our trips that include a flight, a travel accident and travel health insurance that cover potential costs for search and rescue operations and medical costs (for example hospital stays) is mandatory. The insurance will be queried in our online registration form and we kindly ask you to fill in that information.

Appropriate insurance companies you can find in the internet. Please also check your credit card, eventually the according insurances are included.
