Price: 2090 EUR

Since 2004 we travel with skis to Honshu, the main island of Japan. With annually increasing knowledge of the area, we have been developing this journey ever since. In the heart of the Japanese Alps  it snows about 22 meters each winter, making the region one of the snowiest on earth. Several small ski areas are close to the accommodation with superb off-piste skiing. If it snows, you are protected from wind and weather in magical forests. Even shorter descents are a lot of fun skiing in legendary Japow, Japanese Powder. If visibility allows we are able to ski in the high alpine above the tree line, although this requires the ascent with skins. The views into the surrounding mountain landscape are absolutely stunning.

Modern and old lifts provide the necessary support for beautiful runs. Depending on the given circumstances, we decide spontaneously and with appropriate experience about the choice of the area and so we are able to optimize your week. The drive to the ski areas is between 15 and 60 minutes. After returning to the hotel, a hot onsen (Japanese hot spring) is waiting to relax tired muscles. With a Japanese-style dinner we will finish our day.
Sporty-active and cultural values are excellently linked with this trip. Hardly anywhere else does one gain a deeper insight into the Japanese freeride culture than on Honshu.

Trip process

After arriving in Tokyo, the Shinkansen Express train will take you to Jomokogen in less than two hours. This part of the journey is done individually. Don´t worry, we will inform you in advance about the route and the timetable. In Jomokogen the pick-up will be done by your mountain guide and after a short drive the accommodation will be reached in Minakami. On the first evening the peculiarities in the backcountry of the Japanese Alps will be explained and the following day is briefly discussed. At the Japanese buffet you choose your own dinner, almost everyone is fascinated by the diversity of the Japanese cuisine. The next six days are yours to get to know the region at its best on skis and to dive into “Japow”. If it snows continuesly ascents on skins are avoided, but if it doesn´t snow for several days you should have enough strength and fitness for touring in order to reach untracked terrain. Although competition with other skiers in our areas is usually low. Every Saturday morning the return journey to Tokyo begins. The mountain guide says goodbye to the group at Jomokogen Station. We recommend to spend the last night in Tokyo, because this city is truly worth seeing! We are happy to provide accommodation and travel tips. Most return flights to Central Europe leave in the mornings, so the return flight can easily be started on Sunday. Due to the time difference, you can reach your home base in Central Europe on the same day in the afternoon.

Travel preparations

Please note the following three points after your booking:

A good or very good physical shape =>

A realistic self-assessment and an appropriate fitness level is required to join our trips. In order to enjoy long ski days you need to get in shape and train prior to the trip. A good fitness also reduces the risk of injury.

Information about the destination, vaccinations, health =>

Please keep yourself updated about the current (political) situation and country specific particularities of your destination. You can do so by checking the website of the ministry of foreign affairs of your own country.

Travel insurance =>

Please note that there is a potential risk of injury on a ski trip. When travelling abroad several travel insurances are imperative. Besides a travel cancellation insurance we highly recommend a travel health insurance as well as a travel accident insurance. These insurances need to cover potential costs for search and rescue operations and costs for hospital stays etc. It is your own responsibility to make sure you are covered accordingly.

For all of our trips that include a flight, a travel accident and travel health insurance that cover potential costs for search and rescue operations and medical costs (for example hospital stays) is mandatory. The insurance will be queried in our online registration form and we kindly ask you to fill in that information.

Appropriate insurance companies you can find in the internet. Please also check your credit card, eventually the according insurances are included.
