Record snowfall on Hokkaido
Fresh snow, fresh snow, fresh snow!
That was the motto during the past two weeks on Hokkaido. It sounds strange, but at times there was almost too much snow and driving and making tracks through the deep powder was quite a challenge for our mountain guide Mathe Knaus. Nevertheless, he led our groups safely and confidently through the terrain and short weather windows were used for small summit tours. A bath in the snow-covered onsen and a delicious dinner in various restaurants provided relaxation and the necessary regeneration after long days outside in the wild weather.
In the end, everyone agreed: experiencing such masses of snow is almost a privilege these days.
