The surfers below and the skiers above
Throughout the year surfers from the whole of Europe flock to see some of the biggest waves that the north Atlantic coast has to offer. What most people don’t know, however, is that only 30km away from the coast there are snow-covered mountains that reach a height of around 2700m. Around the spines of the Picos de Europa there are lifts and perfect ski touring terrain that cannot be found listed in any ski atlas. In this area this is combined perfectly with the typical Asturias hospitality. We will, of course, make an obligatory stop in a tapas or pinchos bar after skiing.
We want to take you an exotic skiing trip in a truly impressive landscape and give you the most out of downhill skiing that this area can offer.
You can fly within two hours directly to Bilbao from Frankfurt or Munich. We will then travel by minibus along the Atlantic coast to Unquera. We will then follow a winding road up to Fuente De, a small mountain village, where we will be staying. A cable car will take us up to 1900 meters. From up here, an incomparably beautiful ski tour area is opened up to us. In good weather, the view even extends to the Atlantic coast.
After spending two days in Picos, we will head on a three hour journey to the southwestern Felechosa, where we will be staying in a typical Spanish podsada. In the following four days we will go on freeride tours in the area of San Isidro. Lifts will play a role in our ascents. Spectacular routes can be reached directly from the lifts, or are at least nearby. Our return home will commence on Saturday.
