The largest freshwater reservoir on earth

Lake Baikal is the largest freshwater reservoir on earth; its exposed location deep in Siberia makes it one of the greatest natural wonders. The mountains of Khamar Davan extend on the south-eastern shore of the lake. In early winter, when the lake is not yet frozen, westerly winds bring in large amounts of air. Above the huge lake, they are once again enriched with moisture and from the beginning of October they will snow themselves heavily on the first chain of the Khamar Davans. With the lake freezing at the end of January, the rainfall subsides and the continental cold climate dominates.

If you already enjoy a ski tour trip at the beginning of the season, you've come to the right place with us in the Khamar Davan Mountains.

Itinerary

On Saturdays we fly from one of your home airports in just under 7 hours via Moscow to Irkutsk. We arrive in Irkutsk in the early morning hours of Sunday. The minibus takes you to Baikalsk in 2 hours. We load our luggage onto snowmobiles. We ourselves use the afternoon for a short warm-up round and climb on skins to our cozy mountain hut in the deeply snow-covered Khamar Davan mountains. The next 6 days are now available to us to make the most beautiful peaks and descents within the radius of the mountain hut.

The following Saturday afternoon we ski back towards Baikalsk. With the minibus it goes to Irkutsk where a Russian Fairwell Dinner is planned. On Sunday morning, it goes back to Europe via Moscow in the early hours of the morning.

Our accommodation

We are at home in a cozy little mountain hut. We have to do without luxury here, however. We are accommodated in shared rooms. However, the Russian banya is heated up every day and after a long day outside in the Siberian cold there is nothing better than a hot sauna. We don't miss out on culinary matters either. Delicious specialties from Russian cuisine are prepared, and there is always a fine soup Solyanka or Borsh. In addition to the marsh tea, sandwiches are prepared for lunch in the morning. We almost have to do without the Internet this week, it is possible to load and send emails via satellite or to receive and send short messages.
