A spectacular world of mountains

The Tröllaskagi in the north of Iceland has become a well-known ski touring destination. However, we have spent the last several winters in Iceland and have discovered the Westfjords and its small and remote harbour town of Isafjördur in the far west of Iceland. The mountains around this small town are our ski touring locations for the week. We are offered everything here from hot springs, a picturesque fjord landscape, magnificent mountains, to an impressive ice sheet at Drangajökull.

Are you looking for some amazing runs in the terrain of this unknown landscape? Then this is the trip for you.

Itinerary

We will fly directly to Reykjavik with Iceland Air from Munich, Frankfurt, Zurich, or Basel. We will then travel around five hours to the town of Isafjördur, Westfjords. Isafjördur is a small fishing and port town, which does, however, have some shops and a few small pubs. We will be staying at the beautiful hotel Isafjördur, which is located at the heart of the town. The following six days will be all ours to climb some of this area’s most stunning peaks, above spectacular fjords, and to enjoy wonderful runs that lead us all the way down to the coast. On the following Friday afternoon we will drive back to Reykjavik, where we will spend the night. We would highly recommend spending another night in Reykjavik and taking a return flight home on Sunday.

Trip Description

This is a trip that we’ve newly added to our 2020 program. One of the chief focusses of the trip is exploration and adventure. We have, of course, thoroughly researched this destination and our chosen locations and this trip will be led by one of our mountain guides who has excellent knowledge of and experience in Iceland. The mountains in the west of Iceland reach heights of no more than 1100 metres, but the climate can be somewhat unforgiving due to the area’s exposure. Winter starts from October and goes on well into June. The initial journey by minibus can take longer due to bad weather; should roads be closed, the journey may be delayed by up to one day.
