The name says it all

From Manitsoq, a picturesque fishing village situated on Greenland’s rugged west coast, we head north in comfort aboard the Ocean A, a sailing yacht with which we are intimately familiar, bound for Eternity Fjord. The opportunities for ski touring in this breathtaking landscape are just as endless as the fjord’s name itself. Many of the peaks remain unnamed, towering more than 1,800 meters above the fjord.

If you are looking to experience something truly extraordinary with us once again—to discover the unique combination of sailing and skiing—and are willing to forgo luxury amenities and private cabins, this journey promises to be an absolute highlight of your skiing career.

Travel Itinerary

Via Copenhagen, we travel on to Nuuk, where we have a one-day layover, giving us the opportunity to experience life in a small Greenlandic town. The following day, we take a 30-minute domestic flight to Maniitsoq, where the Ocean A, our floating home for the next seven days, awaits us. After a brief safety briefing, we set sail. We cruise through a system of fjords into Hamburger Land, an island offering a virtually endless array of ski touring opportunities. The next day involves another few hours of motoring. Sailing past the village of Kangaamiut, we turn eastward into the fjord of the same name. From the moment we enter, we are left utterly awestruck; at the head of the fjord, a massive glacier calves directly into the sea—a natural spectacle of power and beauty that is truly unsurpassed. We spend the next few days here in this fjord, discovering its most magnificent ski tours. Long ascents are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views stretching all the way to the vast inland ice sheet. Our next highlight takes us into the Eternity Fjord, where we once again encounter a mountain landscape that is truly without equal. After two more magnificent ski tours, our journey home slowly begins. While our crew treats us to one final gourmet meal, we set a course for our home port in Maniitsoq. The following morning, we take a turboprop flight back to Greenland’s capital, and that same evening, we travel via Copenhagen back to our home airport.

Our floating home - the Ocean A

Our Sailboat

The Ocean A is a sailboat specially designed for Arctic waters. It has five sleeping cabins, each accommodating two to three people, and is approximately 22 meters long. A diesel heating system ensures pleasant warmth in the cabins and lounge. Ski boots and wet clothing can be dried. A total of three showers and toilets are available, although fresh water is quite scarce on a sailboat. Only one or two showers are allowed per participant per week.

In the galley, delicious meals are prepared by our cook. Clearly, the Ocean A is not a luxury yacht, yet it is a highly practical and reliable home for our week.

Skiing Equipment

Standard ski touring gear and a change of clothes are sufficient for Greenland at this time of year. Temperatures in May range between +2°C and -10°C on the coast; on the peaks, we can expect winter temperatures as low as -20°C with a wind factor.

For glacier trekking, you'll also need a harness with a screwgate carabiner, which we can provide free of charge upon request. We'll send you a detailed equipment list with your booking.
