Homeland of Guides - Gressoney - Luca Rolli
This trip is also part of the “Homeland of Guides” campaign. Our longtime friend and mountain guide Luca Rolli lives for many years already in Val d´ Aosta. He knows the area not only from his extreme descents but also from many days of guiding and ski touring in spots where good skiers also feel comfortable.
...here we go!
The Val Gressoney is located in the middle of the former German-speaking Walser valleys south of the Monte Rosa. From La Trinite we take the cable car up to Punta Indren. Here we are spoiled for choice, depending on the snow conditions we can decide in which direction to ski. Steep slopes lead over the Malfata down to Alagna. On the other hand, towards the west in the Valle Perduta or Vallon Salza, there are wide, beautiful slopes that open up to us.
The next day the journey takes us over the Colle Bettaforca to the Val d´ Ayas to the west. One of the highlights of the week is the helicopter flight to Porta Nera with the descent over the twin glacier down to Zermatt. After a lunch break with fine Swiss Röstis, it's time to quickly climb up to the Klein Matterhorn. If the conditions are favorable, we can get back to Val Ayas after a short ascent directly over Valle Verra. The 3 valleys Ayas, Gressoney and Valsesia certainly offer more possibilities than we have days available.
We are based in the village of La Trinite in the Hotel Dufour. After skiing we are able to enjoy the newly built spa area. Right after a delicious dinner from the cucina Val d´ Aosta will be served in a very nice ambience.
