Immerse Yourself and Enjoy
There are also hidden and unknown spots in the Alps...such as in Queyras in the Cottian Alps. Here lies the idyllic mountain village of Saint Veran at over 2000 meters, besides Juf in Switzerland the highest mountain village in the Alps that is inhabited all year round. Enough snow and endless terrain are almost guaranteed here in Queyras. If you appreciate being brought up with the lift and then climbing up several hundreds of meters of altitude on your own, you are in the right place on this impressive journey.
On the first day for example, we climb from the mountain station up to the Pic de Chateau Renard in just over 60 minutes. Here a beautiful run takes us down into the Ravin de la Fontain and via a winter hiking trail we return to Saint Veran.
The Possibilities are Diverse
The next day we take it a little more comfortable. The motto is: a lot of descent, little ascent. At the Grand Serre we leave the pommel lift and ski down the north side to Fontgillardes, over the cross-country ski slope we get back towards Molines en Queyras, from here a chairlift brings us back to Saint Verran. On the more than 4 kilometers wide north slope of the Pic Chateau we can still find many beautiful variants.
The next day, a short detour to Abries is on our program. With short ascents we get into the best freeride terrain. If the snow conditions allow it, today is our final run over 1200 meters down to the mountain village Abries. Even in the next few days we will not get bored in the high valley of Saint Veran, our possibilities up here are too big and varied. In addition to the numerous freeride descents, there are also a number of very worthwhile ski touring destinations, although you do need to be fit enough to climb 1,000 meters in altitude. The tour to the Tete de Longet, which breaks the 3,000 meter mark and offers various descent options, is absolutely worthwhile. Let yourself be surprised by a magical mountain world with unforgettable runs.
